Open Enrollment

In Arizona, open enrollment allows students to attend public schools outside of their designated attendance zone or school district. This system provides flexibility for families to choose schools that may better fit their child's educational needs, interests, or logistics, regardless of geographic boundaries. Key points about open enrollment in Arizona include the following:

  1. Statewide Policy: Arizona's open enrollment policy applies to both district public schools and charter schools. Families can apply for their child to attend any public school in the state, provided there is space available at the desired school.

  2. Availability of Space: Admission to a school through open enrollment is contingent upon available capacity. Schools with limited space may prioritize students based on certain criteria, like whether the student has siblings already attending the school.

  3. Transportation: Families are generally responsible for transportation if they choose a school outside their designated attendance area. Ball Charter Schools does not offer formal transportation services to families.

  4. Application Process: It’s important to submit a completed application to the school of your choice early as schools can fill up quickly.

  5. Charter Schools: Charter schools in Arizona operate independently of traditional school districts but are publicly funded. Charter schools participate in open enrollment and admit students based on availability.

Open enrollment supports school choice, empowering Arizona families to select schools that align with their child's unique learning preferences. Charter schools are tuition-free, public schools that operate based on a contract with their authorizer. Ball Charter Schools provides parents and students an alternative to traditional public school systems. We have high expectations and standards that value the school-home partnership as essential for student success.
